DESCRIPTION:The Old Town Hall Pop-Ups is delighted to welcome back Tim Stubbs for another informative and lighthearted talk\, this time about antiques.\nTim remembers his interest in antiques beginning through gardening\, as he uncovered some blue and white pottery in the border; as a child he would visit people who lived on the green asking if I could dig for pottery in their gardens. \n“A little older\, delivering bread door to door\, I’d see other people’s treasures…things we didn’t have at home as my parents has been brought up with “old stuff” and only wanted new !\nLong before I could drive I’d get my Dad to take me to an antique shop in Market Deeping on a Sunday afternoon…..he never went in and would ‘pip’ as he got fed up waiting for me.\nMy collecting area has been pretty broad over the years but has been honed slightly as I’ve got older; country things and social history are both key factors in my collections.\nAfter baking\, I was assistant manager and trainee auctioneer at Bourne Auctions….probably the best job of my life!\nWhat do I like? ….wood with a great patina…personal items like snuff boxes made from horn and graved horn beakers…..English delft and pewter.\nSilhouettes are another passion of mine which of course brings together my love of social history and characters.” \nTim’s talk includes items that he’ll talk about\, some previously owned by some locals …lots of stories and good fun guaranteed! \nAll proceeds from this event go towards our Bourne Town Hall regeneration project.

DESCRIPTION:Revving up for a new car show in South Kesteven\nThe date for a new classic and vintage car show has been announced\, with roaring engines and the gleam of polished paintwork centre stage among a selection of attractions for everyone. \nGrantham Car Show will take place at Wyndham Park in Grantham\, on Saturday 16th May. \nThe family day out – packed with vehicles\, displays and an unforgettable dance show – will run from 10.30am to 4pm and is completely free. \nCabinet Member for Culture and Leisure\, Cllr Paul Stokes\, who is also Deputy Leader of the Council\, said: “We are gearing up to inspire a new generation of classic car lovers with the chance to talk to owners and drivers of vehicles covering more than 100 years of motoring history. \n“South Kesteven District Council has worked hard to organise and fund its first Car Show in an award-winning park setting that will host displays and events to remember. We are so pleased to have been able to respond to the overwhelming demand\, in collaboration with Grantham Car Club. Residents asked for this and we have delivered.” \nThe show is free entry\, and all entertainment is free to enjoy without needing to book. \nThe Council is working with event partners\, Grantham Classic Car Club\, which will be displaying vintage and classic cars. Other car owners who would like to display their vehicle should contact John Welham at Grantham Car Club\, ajwelham@btinternet.com or 0778 868345. \nThe RIDE Dance Show is in town for the day – a summer road trip theme featuring three men and a 1980s Ford Orion that appears to have a life of its own. Their performance is dance theatre as you’ve never seen it before\, featuring stunts and a real car which rotates and spins to provide their performance playground. \nYounger visitors can impress the Rhubarb Theatre driving instructor in a fun filled children’s activity by taking on a wacky driving test around a test track full of hazards… will they pass? \nSKDC will also taking the Rhubarb Theatre Driving School on tour\, visiting car shows throughout the summer to provide additional free family entertainment\, events and dates still TBC. \nGrantham Car Show in May adds to the busy South Kesteven car show calendar\, which takes in annual events such as Baston Car Show\, Bourne Picnic in the Park\, and Stamford Car Show – plus classic/vintage vehicle displays at village shows and regular local car club meets throughout the summer.

DESCRIPTION:Come and Sing Choral Evensong at St. Wulfram’s\, Grantham\nSunday 24 May\, 4:00 pm – 7:30 pm \nOn Sunday 24th May\, singers of all abilities are welcome to join a service of Choral Evensong under the direction of St Wulfram’s experienced Director of Music\, Tim Williams. It is an informal chance to be a part of 800 years of worship in this amazing building. Absolutely no experience of choral singing or even church is required. Just turn up and have a go! Some of the music or links will be supplied before the event (where copyright allows) for singers to have a chance to listen to recordings\, and copies will be provided on the day. \nRegistration will commence at 4:00 pm with refreshments\, followed by a relaxed rehearsal at 4:30 pm\, culminating in Evensong at 6:30 pm\, which will last just under an hour. There is no dress code – please come as you are! The ability to read music is also not a requirement – just turn up and enjoy making music and friends in our wonderful church. All the music is available to listen to online; some links are provided below.
