SUMMARY:Kidnapped
DESCRIPTION:Dir: Marco Bellocchio | Italy\, France\, Germany | 134 mins | Subtitled \nCast | Enea Sala\, Leonardo Maltese\, Paolo Pierobon\, Fausto Russo Alesi \n  \nVeteran Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio (Fists in the Pocket\, The Conviction) brings to life a true story lifted from the pages of a shocking history. \nBologna\, 1858: A six-year-old Jewish boy\, Edgardo Mortara\, is taken from his family by the Catholic Church amid claims that he was baptised by the family’s maid as a baby. While the distraught Mortara family fight to get him back\, they find themselves at the epicentre of a wider historical battle between the forces of Catholic authoritarianism and the growing opposition movement. \nA gripping portrait of a Jewish community in turmoil\, shot in glowing dark tones like a Caravaggio painting come to life\, Kidnapped sees Bellocchio examine a problematic part of Italy’s past and the perennial need to resist totalitarianism.

SUMMARY:Quo Fish
DESCRIPTION:Rob Quo & Pearl Fish are two songwriters with distinct voices who blend their meandering folky musings to create a unique\, captivating contemporary roots duo. Rob was born and raised in a small village in the rural midlands of England\, and moved to pursue a career as a musician in London as soon he was of age. Pearl\, hailing from Peckham\, grew up in the multicultural heart of South London and now lives upon the waterways North of the river. From these quite opposite backgrounds\, they met on London’s burgeoning Folk scene. A mutual respect was quickly formed and they soon began sitting in with one another\, developing a musical chemistry that would form the foundation of their sound. \nFeaturing plenty of vocal harmony\, with accompaniment on acoustic guitars\, shruti box and percussion; their songs meander from pensive/melancholic to light-hearted and humorous\, tackling the full breadth of subject matter inc. Between them they have played up and down the country and abroad taking in shows at Cambridge Folk Festival\, Celtic Connections and Glasgow’s King Tut’s. After an extensive UK tour last Autumn\, Quo & Fish are back on the road with new arrangements and new material to share.

SUMMARY:The Nick Ross Orchestra - D Day Concert
DESCRIPTION:A Very Special Concert to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II \nMany years before the Beatles stepped onto the world’s most famous zebra crossing\, Glenn Miller made his last known recording at London’s Abbey Road Studios on Monday 27th November 1944\, just a few short weeks before he “disappeared” on December 15th of that same year. \nThe lights soften\, the mood settles. An audience waits for that first moment of sound. The Big Band is poised\, relaxed\, but with eyes anxious for the lead. And then\, as if giving body to an echo\, the murmured notes of ‘Moonlight Serenade’… and the night\, it seems\, is suddenly full and timeless. \nThere are those who watch and listen who tap a shy finger to the melodies\, others who follow with a silent foot-beat\, still others who murmur softly through the lyrics\, and those who simply permit a fleeting smile. But common to all are memories. \nRecapture the sounds of a bygone era as the Nick Ross Orchestra presents ‘an unmissable evening of music and song’ – the Classic Big Band Sound of the 1940s & 50s. \nImportant Information \nVenue: Guildhall Arts Centre\, Theatre \nTickets: £27.50 (£25 concessions) \nRunning Time: 2 hour 20 mins (including interval)

SUMMARY:Love's Labour's Lost by William Shakespeare (Stamford Shoestring Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:Love’s Labour’s Lost is one of Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedies. The King of Navarre and three companions swear an oath to study and to create ‘a little academe’ which will be the ‘wonder of the world’. They must go into retreat for three years and give up worldly pleasures – including women. \nWhen a Princess arrives with her ladies-in-waiting\, the whole scheme is placed in jeopardy. Human nature is soon at war with high-minded ideals. \nHailed by Guardian drama critic Michael Billington as one of the 101 greatest plays ever written\, Love’s Labour’s Lost shows the full flower of Shakespeare’s genius for the first time. \nStamford Shoestring Theatre is the resident amateur at the Arts Centre
