SUMMARY:Big Banana Feet (12)
DESCRIPTION:Dir: Murray Grigor | UK | 1976 | 77 mins Documentary \nRarely seen since its original release\, capturing ‘The Big Yin’ on and off stage during his 1975 tour of Ireland\, Big Banana Feet is a captivating record of Billy Connolly on the cusp of international fame. \nInspired by the fly-on-the-wall style of DA Pennebaker’s Bob Dylan documentary Don’t Look Back\, director Murray Grigor and cinematographer David Peat present Connolly at his beguiling best\, using his comic and musical talents and no small amount of roguish charm to navigate the political tensions of 1970s Dublin and Belfast. \nFeaturing iconic stand-up material alongside fascinating behind-the-scenes footage\, this milestone of British comedy has been lovingly restored in 2K from original 16mm materials\, reaffirming the warmth and genius that has endeared Connolly to generations of fans.

SUMMARY:Made in England: Powell & Pressburger (12A)
DESCRIPTION:Dir: David Hinton | UK | 2024 | 133 mins Documentary \nThe story of Martin Scorsese’s lifelong love affair with the films of Powell and Pressburger. \nFirst encountering Powell and Pressburger films as a child in front of the family TV\, Scorsese remembers that when their logo came on screen\, “you knew you were in for fantasy\, wonder\, magic – real film magic.” \nIn BAFTA-winner David Hinton’s wonderful\, captivating doc\, a must for cineastes\, Scorsese explains his lasting love of films like The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp\, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes. Drawing on archive material\, he explores the collaboration between the English Powell and the Hungarian Pressburger – two romantics and idealists\, who crafted subversive\, richly distinctive films that counter-intuitively thrived in the face of adversity during WWII – and their continuing influence on his own directorial style. \n“A unique homage to two legends” Empire \n“Glorious” Total Film

DESCRIPTION:Dir: Elene Naveriani | Switzerland\, Georgia | 2023 | 111 mins | Subtitled \nCast | Eka Chavleishvili\, Temiko Chichinadze\, Lia Abuladze \nA late-blooming heroine is awakened by a passionate encounter in Elene Naveriani’s enchanting new film. \nIndependent\, middle-aged Etero (Eka Chavleishvili) never wanted a husband\, and cherishes her freedom as much as the mille-feuille she repeat-orders at a local café. But when an unexpected encounter brings a new recklessness to her life\, she must decide whether to pursue a relationship or continue alone. Grappling with a personal revolution\, Etero seeks her own happiness. \nWry\, endearing and uncommonly thoughtful\, Elene Naveriani’s follow-up to 2021’s Wet Sand boasts a satisfying emotional ambiguity\, deepened by Chavleishvili’s delightful performance\, Agnesh Pakozdi’s summery cinematography\, and a gorgeous soundtrack. \nImportant Information: \nRun Time: 1hr 51mins \nPriority Booking: Opens Monday 13th May\, 10am \nGeneral Booking: Opens Monday 20th May\, 10am \nEvenings – £7 (£6.50) \nMatinees – £6.50 (£6) \nAll Shows Under 26s – Only £5! \nFriends of Stamford Cinema – 50p off

SUMMARY:LYR
DESCRIPTION:LYR are Poet Laureate Simon Armitage\, singer-songwriter Richard Walters\, and multi-instrumentalist/producer Patrick James Pearson. Formed in 2018\, LYR are now a firmly established part of the contemporary music scene\, with regular radio airplay across the networks\, a critically acclaimed debut album\, Call In The Crash Team\, and over two million streams to their name. They have appeared at many major festivals over the past three years including Green Man and Blu Dot and completed UK tours and sell-out events at venues such as the Howard Assembly Rooms in Leeds. \nHaving released their debut album through Decca label Mercury KX\, as well as releasing music through the traditional channels the LYR ethos is very much about pursuing other creative ventures and bespoke projects. In 2020 they released the song Lockdown featuring actress Florence Pugh\, to raise money for the charity Refuge\, in support of abused women. Commissioned by Durham Brass Festival to compose work around the theme of County Durham’s struggling pit villages\, in July of this year LYR delivered a passionate and culturally significant performance in Durham Cathedral\, backed by Easington Colliery Band. The making of the work was recorded in the documentary Firm As A Rock We Stand and released as an EP under the same title. In spring of this year LYR devised and produced a full-scale promenade musical and dramatic performance of the ancient poem Gilgamesh with students at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. LYR specialise in collaborations with filmmakers\, choirs\, orchestras\, and many different kinds of artists with a view to making a distinctive brand of art\, but one that always has memorable songs\, melodies and words as its foundation stones. \nPhoto credit – Katie Silvester \nImportant Information \nVenue: Stamford Arts Centre\, Ballroom \nTickets: £20 standard
