South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) wants to see residents Get Active by trying hula hooping, yoga or even Giant Jenga.

Get SK Moving is a series of events focused on encouraging people to move more, taking place across the district in the first week of March and SKDC is inviting you to take part. The events are funded by the Government’s Welcome Back Fund.

All the events are designed with fun and family in mind, so you don’t need to be sporty to join in. It’s not competitive, it’s all about enjoyable activities and moving in whatever way makes you happy. You don’t need to wear any sport kit or Lycra and best of all – it’s free!

Deeping Market: Wednesday, 2 March, 8:00 – 12:00.

Bourne Market: Thursday, 3 March, 8:00 – 16:00.

Stamford Red Lion Square: Friday, 4 March, 8:00 – 16:00.

Grantham Market Place: Saturday, 5 March, 8:00 – 16:00.

LeisureSK provides flexible and affordable leisure services for the whole family with four centres in Grantham, Bourne, Stamford and Deepings. For anyone who wants to take part, LeisureSK will be offering a series of activities such as rowing, hula hooping, Giant Jenga, toy archery and skipping. They will be supported by One You Lincolnshire who will be offering on site health checks and advice. Members of the team from LeisureSK will be offering free fitness advice to anyone who wants it and free VIP guest passes for leisure centres. Anyone who wants to can also have their Body Mass Index (BMI) checked – this checks a person’s height and weight to work out if their weight is healthy.

Leisure and fitness can both have a positive impact on people’s mental health. These events offer a wide variety of activities to choose from so there will be something to suit all needs and tastes. There will also be the opportunity to have your blood pressure and your BMI checked.

At the Grantham and Stamford events there will also be the chance to test your peddle power on a special exercise bike hooked up to a blender that produces tasty smoothies using fruit from the local market.

Other Grantham events include Stephen Grey football workshops and demonstrations, ‘bite size’ fitness classes, and the Bike Doctor who will offer advice and help with all your bike maintenance needs.

At Grantham market local sports charity Inspire+ will be hosting several other challenges including a Badminton ‘serve challenge’, orienteering, plus other accessible activities such as seated volleyball, goalball, new age kurling and boccia as well as problem solving and team building activities.

Grantham Tennis Club, The Woodland Trust, Belvoir Tri and a Ride Leader from British Cycling will also be at Grantham promoting their clubs and offering their own activities.

These events are for everyone, so please come along and take part, it will be fun for the whole family.
