We recently spent a day at Easton Walled Gardens and it was lovely. There is a lot more to see and do there then you might think.

The courtyard is free to enter and inside you will find not one, but three shops for you to browse. There is a wonderful tea room, where you can grab a bite to eat along with a cup of tea. The tea rooms now offer afternoon tea; they work with a local supplier to provide this which we think is brilliant.

Once you purchase your ticket and enter the gardens, you are transported to a hidden oasis, a secret garden, if you will. There are lots of different areas for you to wonder round, and lovely little shaded spots for you to sit under with a book.

Easton Walled Gardens recently worked with South Kesteven District Council to support their soldiers from the sky project. Thanks to this there is a new display board at the gardens, accompanied by a new fountain.

The site has a very interesting history, the Easton Estate has supported a rural way of life for centuries, providing a home and workplace for generations of families.

The Easton Estate’s story begins in 1561 when the Cholmeley family took up residence there. Life as a rural estate in the 16th Century meant a whole community working and growing together. Something which holds true to this day.
Easton Hall before the main building was removed
Some members of the team still call the Estate’s limestone cottages home and members of the Cholmeley family are at the heart of everything that happens there, having opened the art shop which is operated by one of the younger family members, and you can see they have a true passion for what they are doing.

The hall and grounds were a natural sanctuary for injured soldiers convalescing during World War I. During World War II, the Estate was used as a barracks, during which time a large amount of damage was sustained, leading to the eventual demolition of the hall in 1951.
The gardens thriving once again
The family have carefully restored parts of Easton since the early 2000s and has brought its Walled Gardens back to life, for the community and the local environment.
