In BAFTA-winner David Hinton’s wonderful, captivating doc, a must for cineastes, Scorsese explains his lasting love of films like The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes. Drawing on archive material, he explores the collaboration between the English Powell and the Hungarian Pressburger – two romantics and idealists, who crafted subversive, richly distinctive films that counter-intuitively thrived in the face of adversity during WWII – and their continuing influence on his own directorial style.
