Aaran Kent Quartet – Jazz in the Cellar

Stamford Arts Centre, Cellar Bar 27 St Mary's Street, Stamford

Arran Kent is one of the UK’s leading wind players, specialising in making jazz & blues sound fresh. This guy really knows how to swing and is praised for his tasty bebop chops and expressive tone on both the clarinet & saxophone - which he plays with equal dexterity. Arran is also musical director of KoKo Collective and is the resident bandleader/host for London's Piano Bar Soho. For this show, Arran will be joined by regular collaborator Andrew Wood at the drums, often featured in the KoKo Collective and the house drummer for Nottingham's jazz club - Peggy's Skylight. On double bass and piano, Martyn Spencer and Matthew Ratcliffe complete the ensemble, both of whom are regular welcome visitors to the Stamford cellar bar jazz events. Yearning for his former lover, the daughter of a local aristocrat (Isabella Rossellini), he falls in with the tombaroli, a rowdy crew who loot the area’s ancient burial sites for artefacts to sell on the black market. Located halfway between the dead and the living, with a wonderful performance from O’Connor and beautifully shot by Hélène Louvart, La Chimera is a wild, sweet ode to the power and fragility of lovely things, and a cautionary tale about how easily they may be lost. “A joyous, masterful work of folk magic” Sight & Sound Cinema Speak - Thursday 4th July at 8pm Join Ben Reynolds for a post screening discussion after the film. This is a chance for audiences to have an informal chat about their reactions to the film over a […]
