Enjoy a toe-tapping afternoon of jazz in Burghley's beautiful gardens. Spend a summer's afternoon in Burghley's Sculpture Garden listening to the swinging sounds of local Dixieland jazz group, the Stamford Stompers. Bring the whole family along, roll out a blanket and soak up the sublime atmosphere. With a soundtrack that will have everyone bopping along - even the littlest of dancers won't be able to resist joining in! Listen to the Stompers as they perform a wonderfully wide repertoire of classic New Orleans jazz with instruments that include a banjo, string bass, clarinet, trumpet, and guitar. During your visit take in the beauty of the Gardens in full summer bloom or let the little ones run wild in Hide & Secrets Adventure Play. The Gardens and Adventure Play are open from 10am to 5pm with the Stamford Stompers performing from 12 noon to 4pm.
The Deepings Raft Race, the highlight of summer in the Deepings, is set to make waves once again on Sunday 4 August. The event promises a day of fun, excitement, and friendly competition, drawing participants and spectators from near and far. The annual charity event taking place every August in the Deepings on the River Welland is a fun day for everyone on and around the river. Over 40 homemade decorated rafts and their crews race up the river from the Bell Bridge in Deeping St James, finishing at the Boundary Green, with spectators cheering (and splashing!) them on from the river banks. The raft race has been a beloved tradition in the Deepings since the 1960s, raising money for local causes. In the past 10 years over £51,000 has been donated to good causes. This year the event will support three great causes: Little Miracles Children’s Charity, Deeping Leisure Centre Community Project and the Deepings Community Library.
