Here in South Kesteven, we are blessed with some of the most beautiful stately homes in the country. Which is why it comes as no surprise that TV and Film both want to film here, in our beautiful part of the world. If you are a film enthusiast, South Kesteven is your next destination to visit!
Belton House is known for its classic Baroque architecture and well-manicured gardens which make it a favourite for filmmakers needing an aristocratic setting. Belton House has been used in Pride & Prejudice (1995 BBC adaptation), The Young Victoria, Bleak House (2005 BBC adaptation) and Bridgerton Queen Charlotte (2023 Netflix).
Stamford is famous for its well-preserved Georgian architecture and cobbled streets, making it one of the most sought-after filming locations in the UK for period dramas. This includes Pride & Prejudice (2005), Middlemarch (BBC), The Da Vinci Code (2006): While not a primary location, parts of Stamford’s surroundings were scouted for scenic shots.
Grimsthorpe Castle is a stately home with a monumental presence – constructed from golden limestone and set within 3,000 acres of parkland. As the final masterpiece of Sir John Vanbrugh, architect of Blenheim Palace, the house unexpectedly marries the Baroque and Tudor architectural styles. Productions at Grimsthorpe have included Bridgerton Series 3 (Netflix 2024), Mary & George (Sky Atlantic, 2024), and Middlemarch (1994).
Harlaxton Manor is a spectacular country house with a fairy-tale facade, set within 300 acres of parkland and gardens. Built in 1831, the Manor’s dramatic architecture combines Gothic, Jacobean and Baroque styles, creating an unforgettable experience. The sense of magic is further enhanced by a picturesque, mile-long approach, crossing an elegant stone bridge over an ornamental serpentine lake. Recent film and TV projects have included The Secret Garden (2020), Victoria (2017), Australian Princess (2005), and, most famously, The Haunting (1999), starring Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
