J and J Alpacas, the unexpected delight!

August 27, 2025

This is something a little different for us as here, at Discover South Kesteven, we are used to exploring beautiful stately homes, grand estates, and interesting libraries, although there is so much more here in South Kesteven. Therefore, we were particularity excited to go to J and J Alpacas, although not sure what to expect.

It turns out, we had the best time, and we cannot wait to go back.

Alpacas trek at J and J Alpacas

It was a beautiful day, and we were welcomed by friendly staff who directed us to the alpacas trekking meeting point, from there, the group was joined by some male alpacas, who all had characters of their own, which meant they were rather fussy about what order they went in. The alpacas were charming and full of character! The staff were extremely knowledgeable, and you could tell that they really cared for the animals.

Bourbon making friends

The walk was a true joy, and funny, especially when we walked past the female alpaca’s field as the alpacas were keen to interact with each other. We enjoyed walking through the wooded area, learning about how the family who owned the farm had planted the trees themselves. We had the pleasure of learning all about Bourbon, who was being trained, as he is only a baby, to be a support animal.

Treats

At the end of the walk, everyone got to feed their alpaca a treat, which they all very much enjoyed. The alpacas are very smart, and they all started walking quicker at the end of the walk as they knew their treat was coming. We had no idea these inquisitive animals were so quirky!

Treats for all – well earned

After, we popped into the café, and a customer who was already in there told us ‘They have the best food here’! There were plenty of options including some amazing cakes. In the gift shop, there was something for everyone, including socks and scarfs, if you had a favourite alpaca, you could choose an item that had been made from their fur!

Café views

All in all, J and J Alpacas is an enjoyable day out for the family. We were surprised at how much fun we had, and how much we learnt, not just about these amazing animals but the green initiatives that J and J Alpacas have implemented, we cannot wait for our next visit.

If you would like to visit, we advise that you book on their website, you can just pop by, but if you wanted to attend one of the experiences it is best to book to avoid disappointment: https://visitalpacas.co.uk/
