Gold medalist rides @ Bourne CiCLE Festival

Aug 27, 2019

Triple Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy will be riding at the Bourne CiCLE Festival as part of the Vitus Pro Cycling team.

Ed will be competing in the elite men’s race on Sunday 1 September over a course of 175 km through the countryside and looping back through Bourne twice before the dash to the finish.

Other top teams entered include Ribble Pro Racing and Swift Carbon, with more than 120 men now expected to line up at the West Street start line.

As one of the most successful and versatile track riders of his generation, Ed Clancy’s specialist discipline is the team pursuit, in which he is the reigning Olympic and European champion.

He will be joined at the festival (31 August and 1 September) by Bourne professional rider and team mate Ali Slater, who cut his teeth at the town’s Go Ride youth programme and progressed to join Bourne Wheelers.

The 26 year old, who encourages youngsters at their weekly British Cycling Go Ride training sessions, joined the British Cycling talent programme and now rides with Vitus Pro’s Continental team.

“It’s brilliant to see a cycling festival like this come to Bourne and be able to be part of it,” he said. Of Ed Clancy, he added. “He’s one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.”

Many of the UK’s top men riders are now entered for South Kesteven District Council’s  festival, confirms Andrew Norman, Head of Visitor Economy for InvestSK, the council’s economic growth and regeneration company.

“This is our first ever cycling festival and we are delighted to see such enthusiasm from the sport,” he said. “To see riders like Ed Clancy on the streets of Bourne exciting.”

Saturday sees the festival’s amateur riders’ sportive and the women’s race, and Sunday starts with a women’s team time trial, followed by the men’s race in the afternoon.
