Now that the kids have gone back to school, the mornings are feeling crisp, and there is the crunch of leaves underfoot, minds are turning towards Autumn.
It’s a time to wrap up warm, embrace all things cozy and enjoy the sweet scent of nutmeg and cinnamon – the perfect accompaniment for pumpkin.
And with pumpkin in mind here is our run down of South Kesteven’s pumpkin patches, plan your visit and jump into the ‘ber months with a bang.
Syston Park Farm Shop, located between Belton and Barkson, host their pick your own pumpkins every year! Each year they grow pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes and colours. Quirky gourds, delicious squashes and shiny orange pumpkins perfect for carving. The pumpkin patch can get muddy, so don’t forget to pack your wellies if you plan to pick your own.
Syston Park Farm Shop is open six days a week, it’s a great place to have lunch, although the café is closed on Mondays. They serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoons teas. There is a wonderful selection of homemade cakes, flapjacks and scones. The daily specials board shows off the very best of locally sourced seasonal produce, including traditional Lincolnshire dishes and game from the farm.

Bowthorpe Park farm is located near Bourne, at Witham on the Hill. The family farm is home to the Bowthorpe Oak, famously the UK’s Largest Girthed Oak Tree. Visitors can enjoy the the snack bar, or bring their own to the picnic area and undercover seating area. The farm hosts events in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. You can visit the farm shop from Thursday to Sunday, where the farm’s own beef, pork and lamb, as well as a range of locally sourced and seasonal products, are available.
The pumpkin patch event is on the 18th and 19th October and then again from the 25th to the 31st October. You can meet the farm animals, pick your pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and then carve it in the pumpkin barn, so there will be no mess at home.

If pumpkins aren’t your thing, or you are looking for something a little different this Halloween, then you must visit Mannakin, located near Fulbeck.
Sometimes referred to as the Mannequin Graveyard, Mannakin Hall is home to over 15,000 mannequins, some of which have been diverted from landfill. Mannakin host a Halloween event every year, you cannot call yourself a Halloween enthusiast until you have attended ‘We’ve found a body’. The Manic Inn will be open on the 31st October and 1st November and there will be tea, coffee, sugar free, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
